A 21-year-old woman from Macclesfield has died following a crash on the A34 in Cheshire. Emergency services were called to the Alderley roundabout on the Melrose Way stretch of the Alderley Edge bypass at around 1am on October 9.
On arrival, officers found three passengers inside a black Mazda, the driver of which had fled on foot, Cheshire Police said. The passengers were all treated by paramedics.
Woman dies at the scene
Sadly, one of the passengers, a 21-year-old woman from Macclesfield, died of her injuries at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The two other passengers, a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, both also from Macclesfield, were taken to hospital. A 36-year-old man from Macclesfield was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Police appeal for witnesses
Police are now appealing for anyone with information that could help their investigation to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Russ Sime, from Cheshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident in which a young woman has sadly lost her life and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
"Enquiries in relation to the cause of the collision are ongoing and one man is currently being held in police custody.
"The A34 is a busy road, and as part of our investigation, we're keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or anyone with any dashcam footage of the collision.
"We're also keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen the vehicle involved, a black Mazda, in the run-up to the incident. The vehicle is believed to have been travelling on the A34 from Wilmslow towards Monks Heath.
