A chilling theory has emerged that Ann Widdecombe's killer may have targeted her after her home was featured on television. The former MP's Devon bungalow was broadcast on a repeat of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House just five days before she was found dead.
TV Broadcast and Death Timeline
The episode aired on Quest TV on July 2, 2026, offering viewers an intimate look inside Widdecombe's £600,000 property. Police confirmed she died from blunt force trauma to the head at her Haytor home on July 9, with the attack believed to have occurred around 12:30 pm on July 8. There is no suggestion the programme was connected to her death.
Former Scotland Yard counter-terrorism detective David Videcette said: "This sort of thing is a real problem nowadays. There’re plenty of free tools for unscrupulous individuals to identify where you live from a photo or video, there’s even more when you’re prepared to pay."
Details of the TV Episode
The episode, originally aired in 2022, showed presenter Angus Ashworth touring the bungalow and evaluating items Widdecombe wished to auction. Cameras captured the entrance, garden, conservatory, gymnasium, study, kitchen, and dining space. The show described her as a "retired politician" and located the property on the "idyllic Devonshire coast."
During the broadcast, Widdecombe sought to sell personal possessions including her parents' Japanese Satsuma dish, a scarf, a bag, and a teddy bear. She explained her choice to live in the isolated property, saying: "I came down here quite deliberately to be as remote as I could, as was sensible. I've got what I want, which is peace, quiet, solitude. Of course, I'm friendly with some of the neighbours. I'm not a recluse."
Police Investigation
Police are investigating the circumstances of Widdecombe's death. Quest TV, owned by Warner Bros Discovery, was contacted for comment but has not yet responded.
