Residents of Waterloo, Merseyside, have voiced fury over what they describe as 'mayhem' and a 'madhouse' atmosphere on the beachfront, following a stabbing that left a man in his 20s injured. The violent incident occurred outside Boots Pharmacy on South Road in the early hours of Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Stabbing and Police Response
The victim, a man in his 20s, was stabbed in the stomach during a serious street fight. He took himself to hospital shortly after the altercation and his injuries were not life-threatening. In response, authorities extended a Section 60 stop-and-search order across Waterloo, Crosby, and Blundellsands. Over the weekend, police conducted 32 searches and made five arrests, including a 19-year-old found carrying a machete.
Residents Describe 'Madhouse' Conditions
Locals reported seeing droves of teenagers flooding into the Sefton suburb as warm weather arrived. Eyewitnesses described the volume of youths spilling out of the train station as resembling a Grand National or football crowd. Scott Bradshaw, 46, from Waterloo, told the Liverpool Echo: 'When the sun comes out it becomes a madhouse. It’s a magnet for people from miles around. Armies of teenagers spill out of the station, and, down on the front, there are people everywhere.'
Anti-Social Behaviour and Increased Patrols
Furious locals have spoken out about the anti-social behaviour that accompanies sunny weather, claiming the popular beachfront destination transforms into a chaotic scene. Sefton Council addressed the disruption, stating that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances. High-visibility patrols have been increased across the area to reassure worried residents and prevent further weapons offences.
Appeal for Information
Detectives are urging anyone with information, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the South Road area to contact them. The community remains on edge as authorities work to restore calm and prevent future incidents.
