Villagers Fight Wildfire in New Tredegar Before Crews Arrive

A wildfire broke out on land in the Welsh village of Phillipstown, New Tredegar, on Wednesday, and local residents took it upon themselves to stop it spreading to nearby homes before fire crews arrived.

Residents Battle Flames

Video footage captured the moment a group of young men heroically battled the fire, using their own clothes to beat back the flames. They worked non-stop to dampen the wildfire until firefighters reached the scene.

Locals reported that a mountainside was badly damaged by the fire, and there were concerns it could spread to homes within the Phillipstown community.

Local landowner Mark Howell, who captured the footage, said the young men did an amazing job in helping dampen a fire he believes was started deliberately.

He thanked local volunteers and farmers, some of whom brought bowsers of water to the scene and carried water from a nearby pond to assist firefighters.
