Two fathers were arrested on suspicion of affray after an alleged fight broke out outside Wellesbourne Primary School in Norris Green, Liverpool, on the morning of July 20, 2026. Merseyside Police responded to reports of a dispute involving two men, believed to be parents, on Abbotsford Road.
Arrests and Injuries
The arrested individuals, aged 32 and 39, were taken into custody. One of the men was transported to a hospital for a medical check, but police confirmed there were no reports of serious injuries resulting from the incident.
School's Response
Wellesbourne Primary School issued a statement confirming that the incident involved two sets of parents and was witnessed by a small number of pupils arriving at school. A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that there was an incident this morning involving two sets of parents which was witnessed by a small number of pupils. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the school. We expect all members of our wider community to act with respect and consideration. The incident was dealt with promptly by school staff and the police, and we will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to address the matter appropriately.”
Witness Accounts
Residents on Abbotsford Road reported hearing shouting and screaming between 8:30am and 9am. One woman told the Liverpool ECHO: “I heard shouting and screaming but didn’t see what happened. I thought it was something to do with the school. I went to take my dog out and there were police everywhere, an ambulance was there too.” Another resident added: “I didn’t see exactly what happened but it was chaos. There were loads of police, shouting and screaming. This was at about 8.30am.” A third said: “I saw police cars going towards (Fairmead Road). I have no idea what happened. It’s really quiet around here.”
Police Presence
Two police cars were parked outside the school, with another nearby. Officers were observed leaving the school just before 11:30am. A section of Abbotsford Road at the junction with Fairmead Road was cordoned off during the response.
