Two Charged with Murder After Baby Dies in Lincolnshire

A Morecambe woman and a Lincolnshire man have been charged with murder in connection with the death of an eight-week-old infant, following a complex investigation by Lincolnshire Police.

Charges and Appearances

Lauren Murgatroyd, 26, from Novak Place, Morecambe, and Liam Neve, 26, from Spinney Close, Grimoldby, Louth, were charged on Tuesday night (June 23). They are set to appear before Lincoln Magistrates' Court on June 24.

Murgatroyd faces additional charges including providing false information regarding a birth, causing or permitting the death of a child, two counts of Section 18 grievous bodily harm, and two counts of causing or permitting a child to endure serious physical harm. Neve faces identical charges plus two counts of actual bodily harm.

Investigation Details

Police were called to a property in Bourne, Lincolnshire, on October 31, 2023, where the eight-week-old child was found and rushed to hospital. The infant later died.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy McWatt of the Major Crime Unit said: "Our thoughts are first and foremost with those impacted by this deeply devastating case. We have continued to investigate this tragic death since 2023."

McWatt added: "This has been a complex and large-scale investigation, and we are now in a position to charge two individuals in connection with the incident. We recognise the deep distress this incident has caused and remain committed to seeking justice in memory of the baby who so tragically lost their life."
