Trigger Point's fourth season opened with a shocking death as DCI Amar Batra, played by Maanuv Thiara, was killed off during the first episode on ITV.
The expo team, led by Vicky McClure's Lana Washington, faced multiple bomb setups across London, including one at the Bank of England, as they raced to save civilians. New commander Nia Quentin, played by Julie Graham, took over command from the newly promoted DCI Batra, who left HQ to help disarm the bombs.
Death on Impact
While searching a dialict office with DS Helen Morgan, played by Natalie Simpson, Batra was blown up and died on impact. His colleague survived the explosion.
Thiara joined the show in season two as a Detective Inspector before being promoted to Detective Chief Inspector. His character's death came within minutes of the episode opening.
Actor's Reaction
Speaking to Reach PLC and other press about his exit, Thiara said: "When I found out, I think we were just from the end of season three, and I had Dan and Chris waiting in my trailer one morning. They told me what was going on, and obviously, at first, I was totally gutted."
He added: "But then annoyingly, it kind of made total sense for the story and the character, so I got on board with it pretty quickly after that."
Thiara also paid tribute to his co-star Natalie Simpson while describing the filming of his death scene: "It was tough, it was very dusty and full of glass," he said. "I chose to have my eyes open for it because I thought that would look cooler, but you know my eyes are still quite itchy from that. But it was great, it was great filming with Natalie as well, because we've had so much stuff like that together. So that felt kind of nice."
Returning Cast
Season four sees returning faces including Eric Shango as Danny, Nabil Elouahabi as Hass, and Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan. New additions include Shetland star Julie Graham as Commander Nia Quentin.
