Tributes to Sam McKenna killed in Woodhead Pass crash

Tributes have been paid to the young man killed in a crash on Woodhead Pass in Derbyshire on Monday night (August 3). Sam McKenna, believed to be from Manchester, has been named locally as the BMW driver who died at the scene.

Crash details

Emergency services were called to the A628 Manchester Road in Tintwistle at 9:50pm on Monday following a collision involving a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz. Derbyshire Police said the BMW driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, while three passengers in the BMW also sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised.

Friends' tributes

Multiple tributes have been posted on social media. Tommy Whittaker wrote: "Sam you were nothing but the nicest guy about, you'd do absolutely anything for anyone."

"You were such a positive person that didn't have a bad bone in him, you made so many people smile brother." Kelsey Leigh added: "One of the most beautiful kind-hearted people I've ever met, this world is cruel."
