Tributes for 'beautiful soul' killed in Newton Heath stabbing

Residents near the scene where a 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death have spoken of their shock and horror. Alisha Samuels was fatally wounded on Dorking Avenue in Newton Heath in the early hours of Thursday morning (October 15). Police were called to reports of a 'disturbance' at 2am and found her with serious injuries. She could not be saved and died at the scene.

Arrests and ongoing investigation

Three people have been arrested in connection with her death. A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 61-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. It emerged today (Friday) that a man was also injured in the same incident and was taken to hospital. The nature and extent of his injuries, or how they were caused, is not yet clear.

A large cordon spanning several streets remains in place today as specialist forensic crime scene investigators continue carrying out extensive inquiries at the scene. A number of floral tributes have been left at one edge of the cordon.

A woman who lives opposite the scene of the stabbing said: "It's just shocking. It's really quiet around here, the two avenues in particular. It's such a shame. A young girl like that. We're all shocked and frightened as lots of people around here have got young kids." Another added: "It's a bit scary, but it's the world we live in now."
