Michael Selwood, a TikTok personality with thousands of followers, was found dead in Tameside after being reported missing. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery at around 5pm on Sunday, July 19.
Police Appeal and Discovery
Police had issued a public appeal over the weekend following Selwood's disappearance. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated: "Sadly, officers searching for Michael found him deceased at around 5pm yesterday (19 July)." His family has been informed and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Social Media Tributes
Dozens of tributes have been shared on social media since the news. Selwood, known as Mikey, had over 21,000 followers on one TikTok page and approximately 38,000 on another. He was a boxer, according to the Manchester Evening News, and frequently posted about his fights online.
One Facebook tribute read: "Rest easy Michael. Gone far too soon, you will missed." Another said: "My good mate Mikey was had some good chats he is a legend in my eyes. Rip my guy." On TikTok, a user commented: "Absolutely gutted. We've had some great chats over the past few months, can't believe it rest easy big man." Another added: "RIP Mikey you will be missed by so many."
Upcoming Memorial Event
A Facebook page has been set up with details for a balloon release in Dukinfield on Saturday, July 15, to honor Selwood. No further details regarding the circumstances of his death have been released.
