Three people were taken to hospital after a van collided with a double-decker bus in Rock Ferry. Emergency services were called to the junction of New Chester Road and St Paul’s Road at around 2.05pm following reports of a crash.
Details of the collision
Merseyside Police said the crash involved a Mercedes Sprinter van and a bus. The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident. Photos taken at the scene show a Stagecoach number one double-decker bus, which was carrying 40 passengers and heading towards Liverpool, and a white van heavily damaged following the crash.
The front of the van appears to have been badly smashed, while the bus's windscreen was also damaged. Two ambulances and two police cars were pictured at the scene.
Emergency response
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) attended an incident on the junction of New Chester Road and St Paul’s Road, Tranmere, on the afternoon of Thursday 10 September.
"Crews were alerted at 2.08pm and arrived on scene at 2.15pm, with two fire engines attending. On arrival this was a two vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) involving a bus and a van. Both vehicles were on all four wheels.
"The bus had 40 passengers on board, with one occupant receiving a precautionary check from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) Paramedics and was discharged at scene. A further three occupants were transported to hospital by NWAS for further assessment. The van had one occupant with no injuries reported.
Road reopened
"Merseyside Police attended and road closures were put in place. A Stage Coach engineer also attended to fully isolate the bus.
"Fire Service personnel made the scene safe before making up their equipment and handing over to Police to arrange recovery of both vehicles. MFRS crews left the scene at 2.56pm."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the road has since reopened.
