Three children have been injured on a fairground ride in Rotherham, prompting a major emergency services response. Police and paramedics were called to Maltby Crags Fair at around 7.30pm on Friday after reports that three children, aged between 11 and 13, had been injured while on a ride, South Yorkshire Police said.
Minor injuries reported
The force confirmed the three children suffered minor injuries. In a statement, they said: "Emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham after three young people aged between 11 and 13 suffered minor injuries while on a ride."
"They have been taken to hospital as a precaution and for treatment and the fairground has now closed for the evening (11 September)."
Road closure and local reaction
Blyth Lane was closed between Muglet Lane and Victoria Road to allow people to safely exit the fairground but has since been reopened.
Former Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford wrote on Facebook: "News from the fair in Maltby, where a ride has reportedly injured a child. I believe only one child is involved, but please check on your children if they are currently there."
The fairground has closed for the evening as a result of the incident.
