Teenagers seriously injured after caravan detaches from Range Rover

Two teenagers were left with serious injuries after a caravan detached from a Range Rover towing it and careered onto a pavement in Skelmersdale, police have said.

The two 18-year-old women were taken to hospital after the incident on Wednesday night. A force spokesperson said one remains in hospital, while the other has been discharged.

Driver fled the scene

The driver of the Range Rover drove away after the incident, and the vehicle went on to hit a third woman who police said was apparently trying to stop him getting away. She suffered minor injuries.

Police appeal for witnesses

In a statement, the force appealed for witnesses and any video footage, saying: "Our officers were called to Beechtrees at 8.30pm on Wednesday (August 19th) following reports that three people had been injured following a collision with a dark blue Range Rover Vogue towing a caravan.

"It was reported that the caravan detached from the car, with the caravan then mounting the pavement and colliding with two pedestrians."
