The pursuit was authorised by Gwent Police during a night shift. According to a statement from the force, the vehicle was driven well in excess of the speed limit, ignored red traffic lights, and repeatedly travelled on the wrong side of the road. The chase ended when the car crashed into a roundabout, leaving it a crumpled mess.

Police noted that the driver was trapped in the driver's seat due to the damage, while passengers fled the scene on foot. All occupants were reportedly uninjured.

Arrest and Charges

The driver was arrested for a catalogue of offences, including dangerous driving, driving without a licence, no insurance, and driving while unfit through drugs. Checks confirmed the individual was not even old enough to hold a licence. The driver has since been released under investigation pending forensic results regarding intoxication.

A Gwent Police spokesperson stated: "A pursuit was authorised with this vehicle in Newport during a night shift. The vehicle travelled well in excess of the speed limit, ignored red traffic lights and repeatedly travelled the wrong side of the road. Travelling at those speeds was always going to end badly and inevitably the vehicle crashed into a roundabout."
