Freya MacLean, a 19-year-old student and dancer, died in an accident at the Falls of Falloch near Stirling, Scotland, on the night of Friday, July 10, 2026. Her body was recovered the following morning at around 11:45 AM. Police were called at approximately 10:45 PM after reports of a woman in difficulty in the water.
Family Tribute
Her parents, Samantha and Ruaraidh, paid tribute to their daughter, describing her as a "beautiful soul." In a statement to the Daily Record, they said: "Beloved by family, friends and the wider community, Freya was a truly beautiful soul whose kindness knew no bounds. Her warm smile, infectious laughter and caring heart brought comfort and joy to everyone she met."
They added: "Always generous with her time, she was the friend people turned to, offering unwavering support, encouragement and compassion. Her personality lit up every room, and her love, humour and gentle spirit have left an everlasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her time with us was far too short, her legacy of kindness and love will live on forever."
GoFundMe Campaign
Following her death, a GoFundMe page was launched by JC Dance and Cheer Academy, raising nearly £2,000 for her family. Organisers Charlene McDonald and Laura-Jane Gelston wrote: "As you may have heard, we have tragically lost our beautiful Glitter Girl Freya in a tragic accident. Freya truly made such a huge impact on all of our girls. She was truly special and made everyone feel like a friend."
They continued: "She had the most infectious personality, a heart full of kindness and was supportive to everyone. She never passed anyone without giving them the warmest smile and was always so cheerful, full of life, and a joy to be around."
University Studies
Freya had been studying primary education at Glasgow University. Her family has requested privacy during this difficult time, stating: "The world is a little less bright without her, but infinitely better because she was in it."
Police Investigation
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The death is being treated as unexplained, but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances." The incident occurred at the popular beauty spot near Stirling, which attracts many visitors.
