A teenager is fighting for his life after a car crashed into an escaped herd of cows in West Dunbartonshire. The incident occurred when a blue 1980s BMW 635CS struck cattle that had escaped onto the road near Gartocharn at around midnight on Sunday, June 28.
Details of the Incident
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A811 near the junction with Old School Road. Two cows were found dead at the scene, and three more had to be euthanised due to the severity of their injuries. The 18-year-old passenger in the car was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as life-threatening.
Driver Arrested and Investigation Underway
The driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and has been released pending further enquiries. No other serious injuries were reported. Police Scotland has launched an investigation into the crash.
Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who has any information that could assist our investigation to contact us. I would ask anyone who saw the car prior to the crash, or who was driving in the area around the time and may have dash-cam footage, to get in touch.”
