Brazen Gang Shooting Claims Life of Father-of-Two
A community in Sydney's west is reeling after a brazen public shooting on Friday claimed the life of a 28-year-old man, remembered by those close to him as a loving father-of-two. The victim, Mal Seve, was allegedly a member of the Inner West Brotherhood gang.
Emergency Response and Dramatic Arrest
Emergency services rushed to Carinya Street, Blacktown, at approximately 11.50am on Friday following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr Seve with critical wounds to his neck, chest, and leg. Despite the efforts of paramedics at the scene, he could not be saved.
As medical personnel worked, police spotted a Mazda ute fleeing the area. They attempted to stop the vehicle, which subsequently crashed on nearby Kildare Road. Two men, aged 18 and 25, then fled the crash site on foot before being apprehended and taken to Blacktown Police Station.
Footage from the independent media channel SCN Worldstar captured the moment one of the suspects, with a visible cut on his face, was handcuffed by officers while lying on the ground between two cars.
Charges Laid as Police Condemn Public Violence
The 25-year-old man was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and remains under police guard. The 18-year-old man was formally charged with murder, taking and driving a conveyance without consent, and engaging in a dangerous police pursuit.
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
Superintendent Brendan Gorman addressed the media on Friday, confirming that both the victim and the individuals in custody were known to police. He stated unequivocally, "Public place shootings and all shootings, police take very seriously - it's one of our number one priorities. Police will do whatever it takes to end that violence."
