Teen Arrested After Glass Bottle Attack in Great Barr

A 15-year-old boy suffered a neck injury after a glass bottle attack in Great Barr, Birmingham, leading to the arrest of another teenager on suspicion of violent disorder. The incident occurred on Thornbridge Avenue shortly after 3.30pm on Friday, July 10, 2026.

Witness describes the attack

Chris Walker, a 58-year-old resident who lives opposite the scene, provided first aid to the victim. He said he saw a teenager on a scooter wearing a balaclava who called over a group of about 10 lads from a nearby school. Within seconds, a glass bottle was thrown, cutting the victim on the side of the neck. The boy then collapsed to the ground near a black lamppost, bleeding heavily from the neck. Walker used a jacket to apply pressure to the wound until police and paramedics arrived.

Emergency response

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to reports of a stabbing at 3.36pm. One ambulance and the Trust's Critical Care Car attended. The patient was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to hospital. West Midlands Police sealed off the road, and National Express West Midlands services 28 and 52 were rerouted along Beeches Road due to the police incident.

Arrest made

West Midlands Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of violent disorder. A police spokesperson said: "We've arrested a teenager on suspicion of violent disorder after another teen was found injured in Thornbridge Road, Perry Barr, at just after 3.30pm today (10 July). The 15-year-old boy has been taken to hospital although his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning as our enquiries continue."
