A teenager has been arrested and three people hospitalised following a collision between a car and a motorbike on the A189 in Northumberland. The incident occurred on the southbound stretch of the Spine Road, between the junctions for the A193 Cowpen Road in Blyth and the A192 Three Horse Shoes Roundabout in East Hartford, at approximately 9:40 am on Friday.
Emergency services responded to the scene, where it was determined that no other vehicles were involved. Traffic was halted for about an hour while the road was cleared, fully reopening shortly after 11 am.
Arrest and Injuries
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police confirmed: "Just after 9:40 am today (Friday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A189 southbound between Blyth and Cramlington. Emergency services attended, where it was found a car and a motorcycle had collided on the carriageway."
The motorcycle rider was taken to hospital with minor injuries. An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. He remains in police custody.
Ambulance Response
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson stated: "We received a call at 9:49 am on Friday 12 June to reports of a road traffic incident on the A189 near Blyth. We dispatched two ambulance crews and transported one patient to NSECH for further treatment. Two other patients were assessed on-scene and made their own way to hospital."
