A 43-year-old teacher has been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, after allegedly raping goats, with a video of the abuse circulating on social media. The man, who taught at Maphovela High School in the village of Odhaleni, was arrested on Wednesday, July 15, following a police investigation prompted by footage provided by the SPCA.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal Police, confirmed the arrest: "Mahlabathini police arrested a 43-year-old man on charges related to bestiality, animal cruelty and sexual assault. It is alleged that the suspect was seen in a video circulating on social media sexually abusing goats. He was later traced and arrested. It is believed the incidents occurred between April and July this year."
Community Reaction
The alleged incidents have sent shockwaves through the local community. A resident told local media: "It is alleged that officials from the SPCA arrived at the police station with video footage showing the suspect sexually abusing goats and requested that a criminal case be opened against him." The goats featured in the video are believed to have belonged to the suspect. Local leader Induna Dlamini noted that the man was born and raised in the village with his family.
Legal Consequences
Bestiality is a criminal offence under South African law, and the suspect faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. In 2022, a man was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing his neighbour's dog. The teacher remains in custody pending further investigation.
