Demetriou is the adoptive father of Kelce's close childhood friend, basketball player Reggie King. Amentum Services took over Camp East Montana in March 2026 after Homeland Security ended a $1.3 billion contract with Acquisition Logistics LLC. Since opening in August 2025, the camp—the largest of its kind—has faced controversies over detainee treatment, financial losses, and alleged destruction of evidence in a detainee death investigation. At least three people have died in custody, including Geraldo Lunas Campos, whose death was ruled homicide. A June 9 Government Accountability Office report stated that 'the contractor did not provide use of force and death reports to ICE, as required,' and that 'evidence associated with the incident was missing or destroyed.' The report also cited negligence in healthcare and sanitation after a measles outbreak spread to the community, and noted that ICE had not inspected the center before opening, leaving it without perimeter security cameras or visitation spaces.
ICE's Response
An ICE spokesperson told El Paso Matters: 'This new contractor will allow Camp East Montana to continue abiding by the highest detention standards with the ability to provide more medical care on-site. This contract also allows more on-site staff and a precise quality assurance surveillance plan. ICE will have even more oversight of the contractors at this facility. Far from closing, Camp East Montana is upgrading.'
