A popular Stockport bar has been forced to temporarily close after it was badly damaged in an intentional attack by yobs. The Cracked Actor, located on Little Underbank in the town centre, had its windows smashed with bricks in the early hours of Friday, June 12.
Attack Details
CCTV footage shared by the bar on social media shows individuals walking up to the venue and repeatedly hurling missiles that bounce off the windows. The timestamp suggests the incident occurred just after 1am. The bar also shared images showing both windows shattered.
In an Instagram post, the bar stated: "This was obviously intentional as we were the only one on the street and there was no attempted break-in. Just total destruction of both windows. To make a point." They added that the culprits took "a hell of a long time to make sure they are smashed to s***" before walking off.
Bar's History and Impact
The Cracked Actor, named after a David Bowie song, opened seven years ago and has become a local favorite. It also featured as a backdrop in the Netflix series House of Guinness, which was filmed extensively in Stockport.
The bar has had to shut its doors for the weekend at least, with bosses appealing for information to help catch those responsible.
Police Investigation
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed the incident has been reported to them. A spokesperson said their enquiries are ongoing. The bar is urging nearby businesses to check CCTV footage from after 11pm on Thursday night until the early hours of Friday.
Anyone with information is asked to call GMP on 101 or use the Live Chat service on their website. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
