A St Johnstone supporter was left scarred for life after being attacked by a father and son at a pub in Dundee. Jamie Black sustained a broken jaw, a fractured eye socket and a fractured and displaced kneecap during the assault by Sean Collins, 57, and Liam Collins, 31.
The pair admitted assaulting Mr Black at Whites Bar in Provost Road after the Dundee v St Johnstone match on 26 October 2024. They admitted punching him, pushing him and chasing him until he fell to the ground, causing severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.
Details of the attack
Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin told Dundee Sheriff Court that Mr Black, a St Johnstone FC supporter, was in Dundee socialising with his brother David. They had drinks before attending the match at Dens Park and then went to Whites Bar afterwards. The atmosphere was good, and they conversed with other patrons, including the accused.
Sean Collins left for a while, then returned and took hold of Mr Black's shoulders. A scuffle broke out, and Mr Black fought back. David Black was also involved. Liam Collins tried to break it up and intervene to protect his father as it escalated.
Injuries and aftermath
The group ended up outside the bar, where Mr Black was punched by both accused. He was knocked to the ground as a car passed very close by. He tried to run away and was chased by Liam Collins. He ran around a van to escape, and the next thing he remembers is being on the ground, feeling extreme pain in his leg and seeing blood on his hands and face. A male voice shouted 'that's enough', and the accused made off.
Mr Black's brother found him dazed and confused, appearing to have been badly beaten. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, including a broken jaw, a fractured eye socket and a fractured and displaced kneecap. He needed an operation to have a knee brace put in place and further surgery to insert a facial implant. He was off work for ten months and was left with an inch-long facial scar.
Mrs Gilmartin said Mr Black cannot run at all and some days struggles to get to work. He has nerve damage in his leg, and walking down stairs can be painful. Sentence was deferred for the preparation of background reports.
