Selma Blair was arrested after allegedly attacking flight attendants and attempting to open the aircraft door while in the air. The Cruel Intentions star, 54, reportedly caused chaos on a Delta Airlines flight bound for John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on Sunday.
In addition to trying to open the plane door, the US actress allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another, according to TMZ.
Official confirmation and response
New York Port Authority confirmed: 'Two flight attendants from the airline were injured to the point where they needed further medical care due to an attack from a passenger,' although they did not name Blair. The statement to the US Sun continued: 'The person who caused these injuries also repeatedly tried to open the plane door. She was arrested immediately upon landing, and the incident is currently being investigated by federal law enforcement.'
Blair's representative told TMZ that she 'experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.' The representative added: 'Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.'
Medical response and previous incident
Officials requested medical personnel at the scene upon landing to address a bloody nose and bite marks, with obtained audio also indicating the disruptive passenger bashed her head against a bulkhead. The Legally Blonde star has not yet made a public statement about the alleged incident.
This is not the first time Blair has been involved in an on-air incident. In 2016, she was removed by stretcher after a 'total psychotic blackout' on a flight while travelling with her four-year-old son. At the time, she said: 'It was horrible and frightening and I had empathy for myself actually afterwards because it was actually so out of character for me, especially because I'm a mother.'
Delta provided a statement to Variety, with a spokesperson sharing: 'Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.' Metro has reached out to Selma Blair's representatives for comment.
