A Scottish woman found stuffed in a suitcase in Athens had been staying with a friend before she disappeared, new details reveal.
Suitcase death in Athens
Elisabeth Jane Ross, also known as Lisa, was discovered by a homeless person in an abandoned building in Kypseli around 1pm on July 18. The 38-year-old had been staying with a Greek friend for about two weeks. The Guardian's Athens correspondent Helena Smith said messages were sent from Ross's phone after her death in an apparent attempt to mislead those tracing her.
Final text messages
On July 15, texts were sent to Ross's family claiming she "needed some time to herself" and "wanted to be alone for a while". Police found no visible wounds or signs of struggle.

Vikki Soloman, 44, was fatally stabbed in her home on Craigievar Square in Edinburgh on July 20. Her former partner Lee Greenan, 46, was charged with murder but found dead in his cell at HMP Edinburgh. The Police Investigation & Review Commissioner is investigating police conduct before the killing.
Dad of rape victim speaks
Aaron Strachan, 21, was jailed after admitting stalking, abducting, and raping a 15-year-old girl in Edinburgh. He was given an Order for Lifelong Restriction, with a minimum five years. The victim's father said his daughter now says "it would be better if she wasn't here anymore".
Woman attacked partner with drill
Jennifer Mitchell, 53, admitted attacking Graham Whyte with an electric drill on April 17, 2025, in Rose Cottage East, New Alyth. She told police: "I tried to kill Graham. I hit him over the head with the electric drill." She said voices in her head made her do it.
