San Francisco Street Brawl Escalates into Mass Shooting
A violent street fight in San Francisco's Outer Richmond district escalated into a mass shooting on Saturday evening, leaving four minors and one adult man with gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 9pm when police responded to reports of multiple shooting victims following a large-scale altercation.
Captain Kevin Lee of the San Francisco Police Department confirmed to the San Francisco Chronicle that officers rushed to the scene after receiving emergency calls about gunshot victims. The adult male victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital, while the four juveniles sustained non-life-threatening wounds.
Social Media Footage Reveals Chaotic Scene
Disturbing videos circulating on social media platforms showed a large group gathered on the street engaged in roughhousing before the shooting erupted. The footage depicted three girls circling another woman, throwing punches and pulling at clothing and hair as dozens of bystanders watched without intervention.
In separate clips from the gathering, another individual was seen being kicked and beaten while lying helplessly in the middle of the multi-lane roadway. The videos showed one man attempting to break up the escalating fight, but tensions continued to mount when a girl shoved another boy.
Remarkably, the youths eventually cleared the roadway to allow vehicles to pass when traffic lights turned green, moments before the shooting began.
Eyewitness Describes Panic and Escape
Tommy Corcoran, a 19-year-old who had moved to the area just one week earlier with his father, witnessed the shooting while en route to the Golden Gate Bridge. He told The Chronicle he was passing through Golden Gate Park when he heard gunshots and saw people scattering in panic.
"I quickly hid behind a log and eventually went home," Corcoran recounted to the outlet, describing the terrifying moments when the violence erupted.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie condemned the shooting on social media platform X, stating: 'This kind of violence does not represent who we are as a city, and we will never tolerate it. I am hoping that everyone affected will be okay.'
Police authorities have indicated they believe this was an isolated incident and assured the public there is no further threat to community safety. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials working to determine what sparked the initial fight and who owned the firearm used in the shooting.
