A Russian soldier in Crimea opened fire on comrades and civilians, killing four people, while Ukrainian drones struck logistics centres across Russia, including Wildberries warehouses, on day 1,624 of the war.
Crimea shooting and Ukrainian attacks
The soldier killed one fellow serviceman and three civilians, wounding three others, said Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of the Sevastopol region. The attacker has been arrested, he said. "A tragedy in Sevastopol … According to initial information, a soldier opened fire on his fellow servicemen, killing one person, before attacking civilians and killing three of them," Razvozhayev posted. "All circumstances and causes of the incident are being established."
Crimea, illegally annexed by Russia in 2014, has faced weeks of Ukrainian attacks targeting military logistics and fuel supplies.
Russian strikes on Kyiv and Sumy
Russian missile and drone strikes killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens in Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, authorities said. The Kyiv military administration said residential buildings and warehouses were damaged: "The enemy is once again deliberately striking civilians and civilian infrastructure."
In Sumy, two children and an elderly woman were killed by Russian guided bombs, said regional governor Oleh Hryhorov.
Drone attacks on Russian infrastructure
Ukrainian drones struck logistics centres across Russia, including Wildberries facilities. A Wildberries warehouse near St Petersburg caught fire with no casualties, the company said. In the Tver region, a facility was damaged near Emmaus. In the Moscow region, a drone attack in Chekhov killed five people in the Novoselki industrial zone. A Wildberries warehouse near Krasny Bor was damaged, wounding one person. A fire broke out at a Lenta distribution centre near St Petersburg, with one injured.
Russia said seven people, including three children, were killed in Gelendzhik by a Ukrainian drone. A Ukrainian official said the drone fell after being shot down: "Ukraine uses its weapons exclusively against the Russian military-industrial complex and economic infrastructure facilities."
North Korean missile deployment
North Korea has begun deploying a missile unit to western Russia, said Andrii Cherniak, an official at Ukraine's military intelligence. The unit of about 90 personnel could be equipped with 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers, based in Voronezh within the 112th Missile Brigade. Pyongyang has sent 40 KN-23 and KN-24 missiles, with final configuration due next month.
Drone attack on civilian in Kherson
Ukraine accused Russia of a war crime after video showed a drone chasing a street vendor in Kherson. Police said the man in his 50s survived with shock and shrapnel injuries. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: "Today, many were shocked by yet another video of the drone 'safari' Russians are carrying out against civilians in Kherson. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to think seriously about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones."
Foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said the attack was deliberate: "This barbaric Russian war crime in Kherson demands international condemnation and justice, but thousands of similar crimes never come to the public eye."
Funeral for student killed in Kyiv
Hundreds of mourners in white walked through Kyiv behind the casket of Vitalina Yarovenko, a student killed while helping survivors of a Russian attack. Her mother requested a funeral procession honouring fallen soldiers. Traffic stopped as drivers stood silently or knelt.
