Richard Ayoade Caught in Car Crash After Speeding Renault Hits Woman

Comedian Richard Ayoade was caught up in a collision after a woman was hit by a 'speeding' Renault in East Dulwich, London. He was seen clutching his neck as he stepped out of his Mercedes SUV, which had been hit. Metro understands that no life-threatening nor life-changing injuries occurred.

Witnesses Describe the Incident

Witnesses in the south-east London neighbourhood described the incident, which happened on Saturday afternoon. According to The Sun, a woman was left 'screaming and crying' after being hit by the car and going flying. A drinker at the East Dulwich Tavern, situated by the roundabout where the crash happened, told the publication that he feared Ayoade could have died in the crash.

He explained: 'Everyone froze at the sound of twisted metal. It was obviously a bad crash. One of the pedestrians who was hit could then be heard screaming. It was a complete shock. A lot of people ran outside. It was obvious from the aftermath that the Renault had been travelling at high speed.'

Talking about Ayoade, he said: 'He acted very calm. He was a victim and was helping the police. Thank God he was okay.'

Ayoade's Calm Demeanor

Pictured at the scene, Ayoade was spotted outside his vehicle in a brown suit jacket with a red satchel over his shoulder. He appeared to be pointing and talking animatedly to officers, who arrived at the aftermath of the crash. Another described the scene and said the 'speeding' car hit a woman who 'ended up on the other side of the roundabout'. Then, they recounted, the Renault collided with Ayoade's vehicle before hitting another woman.

Ayoade's reps declined to comment on the incident when contacted by Metro. The London Ambulance Service told the outlet that it 'treated two women at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre'. They also reported that the Met confirmed an investigation has since been launched into the crash at the Goose Green roundabout.

Ayoade's Upcoming Projects

Ayoade was later seen walking away from his vehicle with his belongings after the smashed-up cars were towed away. It has recently been announced that the father-of-two will be joining the Taskmaster cast for season 22. He'll be taking part in the show alongside Matt Lucas, Chloe Petts, Isy Suttie and Nina Conti. The Travel Man star took part in Amazon Prime Video's 2025 Last One Laughing and provided tough competition for Bob Mortimer, who ended up victorious.
