Emma Addrison has submitted a proposal for a licensed premises at a former vegan deli at 13 High Street in Sandown, Isle of Wight. The building was previously The Bay Vegan Deli and Coffee House but now stands empty. As part of the proposal, a Heritage Statement says the building's stallriser and painted woodwork would be painted with Farrow and Ball Green Smoke exterior eggshell. The fascia would be sanded and varnished, and a sign made of individual wooden letters would be painted in black.
Addrison's application form states the potential pub would not manufacture any drinks and would sell to the public in line with licensing conditions.
Local concerns over antisocial behaviour
Residents who live near the site have expressed concerns. Giles Conrad told Island Echo: "The covered corridor leading to mine and another front door is adjacent to the site. I frequently have to wash this area due to urine and vomit. I imagine this would become worse should this premises become a pub."
Another resident said a new pub might increase the chance of people trespassing into her garden. Karen Smedley added: "Sandown High Street is already a hub for antisocial behaviour and street drinking. Having a pub there adds to the misery of the local community."
Consultation and decision timeline
The Isle of Wight Council's public consultation on the application is live until July 31. A decision is scheduled for August 25.
Sandown is already home to several pubs including The Ocean Deck Bar and Restaurant, Sandown Pub and Kitchen, Flanagan's and Caulk Heads.
