The tit-for-tat between both sides of the Glasgow divide has reignited following the weekend's controversies, with Rangers branded "the most pandered to club in British football" and Celtic accused of VAR revisionism.
VAR was meant to do away with controversial decisions, but the technology in Scotland has only stirred more debate and fuelled conspiracy theories. The fallout from Celtic's two disallowed goals in Paisley rumbles on.
Fans trade accusations over VAR bias
Iain Morrison, Livingston, said: "Here we go again. The usual suspects are complaining about VAR in the St Mirren vs Celtic game. Not a peep about VAR last season when the technology, along with officials, bailed them out umpteen times."
Martin Roberts, Clydebank, said: "Last season we never heard a peep from the east end as most VAR calls went their way."
Henry Moffat from Stirling said: "Who are Rangers fans trying to kid? Every decision has gone their way this season; they are the most pandered to club in British football, while decisions against Celtic have been a disgrace. Don't start me on tainted titles because I could rattle off seven which will one day be scrubbed from history."
Celtic dominance and Old Firm revival talk
Hotline regular Alan Flett claimed Celtic have missed the chance to "blow Rangers out of the water" since 2012.
Paul Price, Glasgow, said: "Ooh, Alan Flett, you brighten up the Celtic supporters' mornings on the Hotline. Have we not blown Rangers out of the water over the last 14 years? Remind me exactly how many Trebles and Doubles or even the occasional league titles your club have picked up in this period? And I love your optimism that Rangers can come good... I wonder if that will be this millennium?"
Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "The Hotline caller on Monday talking about Celtic not blowing Rangers got me thinking. I would love that chance. If the American owners have the cash, why don't they buy the original club back out of liquidation and pay off the debt? Imagine the interest worldwide in the return of the real Old Firm. That would be box office and a massive boost to our game."
Praise for Celtic duo and Rangers striker concern
Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, praised two underrated Celtic figures. He said: "I wholeheartedly agree with Martin O'Neill's assessment of Liam Scales' performance in the hard-fought win against St Mirren. He still has his doubters amongst some Celtic supporters, but for me, he always gives one hundred per cent wherever he is asked to play. And also a special mention to set piece coach Ross Grant for surely playing his part in Scales' headed goal, which I'm positive will be a deciding factor this season."
William Hutchison, Aberdeen, welcomed news that Jota's return from injury could be fast-tracked: "That's great news Jota is making a comeback. It looks to be earlier than expected but I hope they don't rush him back too quickly. He needs time to ease into it otherwise he might get crocked again. Get him back on the team sheet, then on the pitch just for 10 minutes and build it up from there."
Across the city, Lawrence Shankland's hamstring injury has left Rangers with a major problem up front. Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: "Derek McInnes has a huge decision over who to pick as a replacement for Lawrence Shankland and lead the line against St Mirren as well as two massive Old Firm games. Whoever is chosen out of Ryan Naderi, Bojan Miovski and Kevin Kelsy must be able to score goals from the get-go. Miovski was top scorer at Aberdeen and has scored goals against Celtic yet he's out of favour."
The final word goes to worried Aberdeen fan Hugh McKirdy, who emailed: "I've been a Don for 45 years and in recent years the only periods of stability were under Jimmy Calderwood, sadly no longer with us, and more recently Derek McInnes. Both were removed by the hierarchy. So for me, the judgment by those at the top is a huge concern."
