Investigations into the cause of a fire at a former nightclub in Wigan are continuing, with a 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson released on bail.
Fire at former Jumpin' Jak's nightclub
The fire broke out at the former Jumpin' Jak's nightclub building at around 3.10am on Monday morning (August 24). Police cordoned off a stretch of the street in the town centre as firefighters worked to tackle the blaze.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson following the incident. Greater Manchester Police confirmed he has since been released on bail.
Fire service statement
A probe into the cause of the fire is continuing, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said (GMFRS). The service's latest statement said: "Just before 3.10am on Monday 24 August, three fire engines from Wigan and Hindley attended a commercial building fire on King Street, Wigan.
"The fire involved the ground floor of a disused night club. Crews used specialist equipment to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for several hours."
Road reopened
King Street is reported to have been re-opened. The fire broke out in the same building where a huge blaze happened in November last year.
