Prince Harry has vowed to explore “every available option” to bring his children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to the United Kingdom next month, as he prepares for a series of engagements related to the Invictus Games, scheduled to be held in Birmingham in 2027.
Security concerns block family visit
The Duke of Sussex intends to travel with his wife Meghan and their two children for a trip that would include visiting the Althorp Estate, where his late mother Princess Diana is buried, and potentially a visit to see King Charles. However, the Home Office’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) has reportedly decided not to provide enhanced taxpayer-funded security for the visit, prompting Harry to reconsider bringing his family.
It is understood that Harry was offered accommodation at a royal residence during the trip, but his spokesman emphasized that safe accommodation is only one element of an effective protective security plan.
Statement from Harry's spokesman
In a statement released on June 29, 2026, Harry’s spokesman said: “Prince Harry’s programme in the United Kingdom includes both public and private engagements across the country. Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective protective security plan because risk follows the person, not the place.”
The spokesman added: “The issue has never been accommodation. The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit. The independent Risk Management Board that RAVEC itself decided was necessary last November has still not taken place. It is therefore difficult to understand how the proportionality of the current arrangements can credibly be maintained without that independent assessment.”
Exploring all options
The Duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK, the spokesman confirmed. The trip is tied to Harry’s Invictus Games commitments, with the event set to take place in Birmingham next year.
This is a breaking news story, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
