Prince Harry has arrived in the United Kingdom for a five-day trip, but uncertainty surrounds whether he will meet with his father, King Charles, and where he will stay. The Duke of Sussex landed in London alone, without his wife Meghan Markle or their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after they reportedly pulled out due to security concerns.
Purpose of the Visit
Harry's primary focus is promoting the Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham next month. He is scheduled to attend an Invictus Games event today and will also participate in engagements linked to his other patronages, including WellChild and Scotty's Little Soldiers. Additionally, he is awaiting a High Court ruling on Tuesday regarding his case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail, over allegations of voicemail interception and unlawful information gathering. The publisher denies the claims. Harry, along with other claimants such as Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Sir Elton John, and David Furnish, will learn the outcome.
Accommodation and Security Issues
Harry initially requested to stay at Buckingham Palace but was told his request came too late. Reports indicate that his presence could compromise the King's constitutional position, especially with the High Court judgment pending. Security arrangements have also been problematic: the Risk Management Board (RMB), part of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), had not made a final decision on police protection for Harry and his family. A request for police protection for the trip was reportedly denied, leading Meghan and the children to stay in the United States.
Potential Meeting with King Charles
Whether Harry will meet King Charles remains unconfirmed. Private channels of communication have been used to discuss a possible meeting, but no official confirmation has been given. Harry hopes to reunite his children, Archie (7) and Lilibet (5), with their grandfather, who is undergoing cancer treatment. The children last saw the King in 2022 during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. However, there are no plans for Harry to meet his brother, Prince William.
Other Engagements
Harry may also visit Althorp in Northamptonshire, the resting place of his mother, Princess Diana. The trip is being considered as part of his visit. The Duke's schedule includes appearances in London and Birmingham, with the possibility of Meghan joining him at some events still unclear.
