Firefighters responded to a blaze on Wednesday afternoon in Fernhill Close, Merthyr Tydfil, close to the town's Prince Charles Hospital. The fire led to the suspension and diversion of air ambulance activity at the site.
Disruption to Air Ambulance Services
Due to the extent of the fire and its close proximity to the hospital's helipad, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board suspended and diverted air ambulance activity at the site. The health board warned that the disruption could mean longer transfer times and delays in accessing care.
Hospital Operations Unaffected
While the hospital's air ambulance access was affected, the A&E department remained open and operational as normal. The health board issued an update on Wednesday evening to say that the incident had been resolved.
