Summer Rose Miles, a 17-year-old pregnant teenager, died suddenly on July 12 after suffering a brain stem haemorrhage. She collapsed at her home in Nottingham, just one day after her planned gender reveal party for her unborn child.
Despite emergency surgery, her injuries were too severe, and she gave birth to her baby, who also did not survive. Summer was 17 weeks pregnant at the time.
Family's Grief and Fundraiser
Her older sister, Chloe Jade, 27, has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs. The fundraiser has already received significant support from the community.
Chloe told The Mirror: "She couldn't wait to be a mum. She has said this since I remember her playing with dollies. She loves children so much, and although young, and it was a shock for everyone, we know she'd have been the best mummy ever."
Details of the Tragedy
The cause of death was a spontaneous brain haemorrhage. Chloe said: "The doctors said it was spontaneous, tragic and rare, especially in her age and pregnancy. Summer was otherwise fit and healthy."
Summer and her boyfriend Carson were scheduled to have a gender reveal party on July 11, but the private scan never happened. One of the last things Summer told her mother was that she was thankful for how nice the garden looked for her big day.
Remembering Summer
Chloe described her sister as a "whirlwind of chaos and laughter." Summer was close to her parents, Mandy and Scott Miles, and loved horses, swimming with her father, and being an aunt to her niece Ava.
She also enjoyed music, recently singing Coldplay's "Yellow" with her sister. Chloe said: "When she first told me her new favourite song was Yellow, we sent a video singing it together to her dad."
The family is now focused on giving Summer and her baby a proper farewell. Chloe wrote on GoFundMe: "No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially a 17-year-old daughter and her baby."
