Merseyside Police officers struck an electric motorbike rider at "slow speed" in Anfield on Monday after the man allegedly failed to stop and rode dangerously. The incident occurred on Oakfield Road shortly after 4pm on June 30, prompting a large emergency services response and a cordon in the area.
Rider suffered ankle injury after failing to stop
According to Merseyside Police, officers on patrol spotted the electric motorbike being ridden dangerously along Breck Road, including allegedly going through red lights. The rider, a man in his 20s, failed to stop for officers before "contact was made at slow speed." The man suffered a suspected ankle injury and was assessed by paramedics at the scene. A red electric motorbike was seen lying next to an unmarked police car inside the cordon before being recovered by a removal truck.
Local residents witness police response
People living nearby described seeing a large emergency services response, with police cars "flying" up Sleepers Hill shortly after 4pm. One resident told the Liverpool Echo: "We saw the kid sitting down on the pavement, leaning against the railings. He looked like he was in a lot of pain. He had his sock off and was getting his leg looked at."
In an update on Tuesday, Merseyside Police confirmed the man has been discharged from hospital and no arrests have been made. The incident has not been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) at this time.
