A person has tragically died on the train tracks near Stockport station, prompting an emergency response that disrupted rail services on Sunday evening.

British Transport Police (BTP) received reports of a casualty on the tracks at approximately 4:45 PM on Sunday, June 21. Officers and paramedics attended the scene near Stockport station, where the individual was sadly pronounced dead. A BTP spokesperson confirmed: “We were called to Stockport station at 4.45pm on Sunday 21 June following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
No Suspicious Circumstances
The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner. No further details about the deceased have been released at this stage.
Service Disruption
All lines to and from Stockport were blocked as emergency services responded to the incident. A Network Rail spokesperson stated: “Due to emergency services responding to an incident, lines are blocked at Stockport. There will be delays and cancellations while we work on reopening the line.” An Avanti West Coast spokesperson added: “Due to the emergency services attending an incident at Stockport, all lines are blocked. Train services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Styal. Macclesfield and Stockport will not be served.”
Services were severely affected, with trains diverted or cancelled, causing significant disruption for passengers travelling through the area.
