One person to hospital after Newcastle city centre incident

One person has been taken to hospital after reports of someone being “injured” in a Newcastle city centre building. Emergency services, including firefighters and police, descended on New Bridge Street West and nearby Market Street on Sunday afternoon.

It is understood a person was found injured in a building and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Ambulance response

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1.30pm on Sunday 11 October to reports of a person injured at an address on New Bridge Street West in Newcastle city centre.

“We dispatched an ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended by air. One patient was taken to the RVI by road for further treatment.”

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service would not comment on the incident when contacted by Chronicle Live. Northumbria Police has also been contacted for comment.
