Greater Manchester Police have relaunched a murder investigation after Ramon Logan, a 42-year-old father of four, died on June 30, two years after being brutally attacked in Oldham town centre. The assault occurred on July 15, 2024, during celebrations of the Euros final.
Details of the Attack
Sebastian Jones, 38, of Dickens Street, Oldham, was convicted of Section 18 assault and sentenced to seven years in prison after a three-day trial. Video footage showed Jones emerging from a nightclub on Yorkshire Street at approximately 4am, approaching Ramon and striking him. The blow caused Ramon to crash to the pavement, where Jones continued the assault.
Bystanders alerted police, who found Ramon with severe head injuries. He was taken to hospital in critical condition. Jones remained at large for a week before being arrested in Bury.
Victim's Death and Family Tribute
Ramon, known as 'Ray' to family and friends, passed away on June 30. His wife, Charlotte, paid tribute: "It is with a broken heart I announce the passing of my beautiful husband, Ray Logan, on 30th June. Ray was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, and will be missed immensely by everyone who knew him." She added: "Ray never stopped fighting to get better for the last two years, all we can wish for now is that he gets the justice he deserves."
Murder Investigation Underway
Detective Inspector Andy Day, from GMP's Oldham district, said: "We have now launched a murder investigation, and are keeping his family updated as we progress our enquiries. We are assessing all available material and will be making further reviews in due course." No arrests have been made yet. A Home Office post-mortem examination has been carried out, with further investigations to establish the cause of death.
