A mother has been found guilty of killing her three-month-old daughter by exposing her to the heat from a hairdryer. Courtney Gartshore, 28, was convicted of culpable homicide following a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen.
Verdict Reached Quickly
Jurors took just over an hour to reach a guilty verdict on the seventh day of the trial. Gartshore sobbed as she was led from the dock to the cells, according to BBC reports.
The charge stated that Gartshore culpably and recklessly caused Dahlia-Rose to be subjected to heat from the appliance while the child was in her sole care. The injuries were so severe that the infant died as a result.
Sentencing Scheduled
Gartshore denied culpable homicide but was found guilty. She is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on August 14.
The incident occurred in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, in September 2023. Dahlia-Rose Gartshore suffered serious burns from the hairdryer heat exposure.
