Mid-air brawl erupts on Ryanair flight to Ibiza as police meet plane

A fight broke out between passengers on a Ryanair flight from London Stansted to Ibiza on 5 October, forcing the aircraft to delay its descent until police met it on landing.

Passenger Harry Watson, 28, from Northampton, witnessed the brawl. He said a man involved in the altercation refused to return to his seat despite the seatbelt sign being on, as he apparently wanted to use the toilet.

Passengers shout at man as fight breaks out

"Everyone started shouting at him," Harry said. "As he went back to his seat and people were shouting at him - one guy was being very verbal."

"The lad didn’t like it, so he got angry and violent towards the guy, which caused a fight to break out. This happened multiple times."

Crew intervenes as plane prepares to land

Footage of the incident shows a cabin crew member attempting to break up the brawl. In the clip, she can be heard shouting "sit down" as the tussle takes place in the aisle.

The aircraft was preparing to land at the time. According to Harry, the altercation delayed the descent, leaving passengers frustrated.

Police arrest and remove passenger

He said: "Everyone got very annoyed after a while, especially because the plane couldn’t land and had to go back in the air again. Police arrested and handcuffed the guy when we landed and escorted him off the plane."

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "Crew on this flight from London Stansted to Ibiza (5 Oct) called ahead for police assistance after a passenger became disruptive onboard."

"Police met the aircraft upon landing at Ibiza Airport, and the disruptive passenger was removed."

"Ryanair has a strict zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct and will continue to take decisive action to combat unruly passenger behaviour, ensuring that all passengers and crew travel in a respectful and stress-free environment, without unnecessary disruption."

Spain's National Police were contacted for comment.
