Martinez calls out Wilcox after Man Utd defeat

Lisandro Martinez called for changes at the top after Manchester United recorded their fifth consecutive winless match across all competitions away to Atletico Madrid.

United's Nightmare Start in Madrid

Things got off to a terrible start when the hosts took the lead after less than a minute, with United's defence all over the place early doors. It looked as if it would be a trying evening in the Spanish capital thereafter, but United were the team who reacted stronger, with Bryan Mbeumo, Marcus Rashford and Carlos Baleba all spurning golden opportunities to equalise.

However, a controversial red card for Leny Yoro midway through the second half killed United's hopes of a comeback, with Atletico adding a second through former Everton man Ademola Lookman shortly after.

Pressure Mounts on Carrick

It means United's last win came against minnows Sabah FK over a month ago, and with a trip to Leeds United on the horizon this weekend, the pressure continues to mount on Carrick's shoulders.

And when asked about the Red Devils' situation, Carrick told Amazon Prime: "[Martinez] went on a scathing rant, calling for Jason Wilcox to be sacked after the defeat."
