Shocking dashcam footage has captured the moment Daniel Meredith threw a man headfirst off a 12-foot elevated pedestrian walkway onto a busy road in Torquay, with the victim narrowly missing an oncoming car. The attack, which occurred on October 28 last year, left the victim with a broken spine, broken shoulders, six broken ribs, and significant bruising, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.

Attack on Torbay Road

The incident took place at around 6.15pm on Torbay Road, a main coastal road in Torquay. Police were called to reports of two men arguing near a bridge. Footage obtained by authorities shows Meredith and the victim beside the railings of a raised pedestrian walkway before Meredith tossed the victim over the edge, causing him to fall 12 to 15 feet headfirst onto the road below.

Meredith, 36, then fled the Devon and Cornwall area but was quickly located by police and returned to face justice.

Court Sentencing

At Exeter Crown Court, Meredith was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and was sentenced to six years in prison. Detective Inspector Jeanne Hellyer of Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We welcome the sentence passed by the court for what was a vicious assault committed by Daniel Meredith. The victim in this case was left with serious injuries and the dash-cam footage from a passing vehicle shows just how close the victim was to losing his life as he fell onto the road below.”

Hellyer added: “There is no place for such violence in our society and we are pleased Meredith has been taken off the streets before he could commit further harm. Meredith left the force area after the incident but was swiftly located by our officers and returned to face justice. I would like to praise the bravery of the victim and thank him for remaining engaged throughout the court process allowing justice to be done.”
