Shaki Robinson, 49, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison after chasing and repeatedly slashing a 21-year-old man who intervened to defend a woman during a night out. The attack happened on Beastmarket Hill in the early hours of November 22, 2025.
Attack and arrest
The victim had been waiting with his girlfriend for a taxi on Angel Row when they saw Robinson acting aggressively towards a woman. After a dispute outside a fast-food restaurant, Robinson chased the young man and stabbed him in the back, cheek and shoulder with a Stanley knife. Officers found the victim bleeding from multiple wounds and arrested Robinson minutes later on Wollaton Street, with help from members of the public. Robinson punched one officer in the head as he tried to resist arrest.
Guilty plea and sentence
Footage obtained by detectives shows Robinson throwing the knife to the floor moments before he was apprehended. Arresting officers also found suspected class A drugs inside a sock in his pockets. Robinson, of Radford Road in Nottingham, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, possession of a knife in a public place, assault on an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply cocaine, and possession of heroin and cannabis. At Nottingham Crown Court on July 30, he was jailed for seven years and six months.
Police comment
Detective Constable Natalie Gooderham said: "A number of people enjoying a night out unwittingly became involved in this incident. Robinson not only violently attacked the victim, but proceeded to walk through the city centre brandishing a knife. It must have been frightening to witness and we're grateful to the members of the public who bravely intervened by assisting officers to both detain Robinson and recover the knife. Violence of this nature has no place in our night-time economy and will always be met with a robust response by officers."
