Man dies after falling from building in Edinburgh city centre

A man has died after falling from a building in Edinburgh city centre. The incident occurred at around 11.30am today in St Andrew Square.

Incident details

Police received a report of a man having fallen from height at a building in St Andrew Square. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. St Andrew Square was cordoned off and a large green tarpaulin was erected at the entrance to Harvey Nichols, which closed following the incident.

Officers were seen around the cordon speaking to members of the public, while two ambulances were parked outside the department store, according to Edinburgh Live.

Police statement

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.35am on Wednesday, 19 August, 2026, we were called to a report that a man had fallen from height at a building in the St Andrew Square area of Edinburgh.

"Emergency services attended however the man was pronounced dead a short time later. Enquiries are ongoing."

Transport disruption

Lothian Buses has diverted two services from the area as emergency services remain at the scene. Both the CS1 and ET1 have been rerouted for the time being.
