A man has died after being hit by three cars on the M56 in the early hours of Monday, August 31. Emergency services were called to the motorway between junction 12 at Runcorn and junction 14 at Hapsford at around 12.50am.
Three vehicles involved
Cheshire Police officers and paramedics found the man had been struck by a black Dacia Duster, a red Kia Niro and a black Ford Focus. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the man, believed to be a 38-year-old from Golborne, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Motorway closure and investigation
The M56 eastbound was closed for a significant period before reopening at around 9.15am. Forensic work is believed to have been carried out by the collisions team at Cheshire Police before the carriageway reopened.
Detective Sergeant Russ Sime, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: "This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.
"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision are ongoing and as part of the investigation we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or believes they may have seen the pedestrian on the motorway prior to the collision, to get in touch.
"The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid our investigation.
