A man in his 70s has tragically lost his life after being struck by a Luas tram on Marlborough Street in Dublin city centre. The incident occurred just after 7pm on Monday, 15 June 2026, during the evening rush hour. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Scene sealed off and Luas services halted
The area is currently sealed off, and Luas green line services have been halted in the vicinity. Local traffic diversions are in place as Gardaí conduct a forensic examination of the scene. The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.
Garda appeal for witnesses and dash-cam footage
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from individuals with dash-cam or camera footage who were in the area of Marlborough Street at the time of the incident. A Garda spokesman stated: 'Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident on Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, on Monday, 15th June 2026.'

Separate incident: Car crashes into nursery playground
In a separate incident, a two-year-old boy is seriously injured and two other children are hurt after a car ploughed into a nursery playground in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The incident occurred at approximately 9.54am on Monday, 15 June, at Partou Sunny Days Nursery and Pre-school on Vale Road. A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Cheshire Police confirmed that the car drove through a fence and into the playground area. The two-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital; the other two children sustained minor injuries. The incident is believed to be isolated.
