A 31-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in a targeted attack on a busy Manchester city centre street.
Police find injured man on Peter Street
Officers on patrol on Peter Street, a bustling thoroughfare lined with bars and restaurants just off Deansgate, discovered the injured man at around 3.40am on Sunday, July 19 2026. They found he had suffered stab wound injuries and immediately administered first aid.
He was rushed to hospital from the scene. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said he remains in a stable but critical condition.
Targeted attack, no wider threat
Police believe the victim was the subject of a targeted attack. Chief Inspector Mike Tachauer of GMP’s City of Manchester Central team said: “Whilst no arrests have been made, I’d like to reassure residents and the wider community that we believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community. Our investigation is working at pace to establish those responsible for this.”
No arrests have been made at this stage, and an investigation is underway. A scene remains in place on Peter Street, and officers will continue to be in the area to provide reassurance.
