Man Critical After South London Stabbing; Public Chases Suspect

A 37-year-old man is in a critical condition after being stabbed multiple times in a residential area of south London on Saturday evening. The attack occurred on Weir Road, near Clapham Park, at approximately 7:35pm on July 18.

Police officers arriving at the scene found the victim with stab wounds and administered first aid before paramedics took over. The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Sunday that the man remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Officers are working to identify a male suspect who was chased away from the victim by members of the public, according to MyLondon. The suspect is believed to have been armed during the incident.

Detective Superintendent Gareth Gilbert said: "This was a shocking and brutal attack, carried out in broad daylight on a residential street. Our officers are working quickly to identify and arrest the attacker and it is imperative that anyone with information should come forward immediately."

Gilbert acknowledged the disturbance to the local community, stating: "We recognise this incident will be deeply disturbing to the local community and want to reassure residents that they can expect to see an increased number of officers in the area over the coming days." He also praised the public's bravery: "We would also like to pay tribute to the members of the public who bravely chased the suspect away from the scene while he was still armed."
