A man has been charged with attempted murder after an attack at a north London shopping centre. Eugene Asiedu, 36, from Lewisham, was arrested on Sunday and charged on Monday with attempted murder and possession of a knife/bladed article after a victim was stabbed at the Angel Central.
Incident at Angel Central
The alleged victim and two men with a gunshot wound each were found at the shopping destination on Tuesday evening. A 36-year-old man was also stabbed in the incident, with his injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Both shooting victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 33-year-old’s injuries have been assessed as life-changing.
The investigation into the shootings is ongoing. Witnesses described how shoppers ‘ran for their lives’ after gunshots were heard as rapper Catch from South London performed at the O2 next door. Gig-goers were kept inside the venue by security as armed police were dispatched to the scene.
Witness accounts and police statement
One attendee told This Is Local London: ‘We assumed the band had stopped because they thought they had run out of time, as they stopped in the middle of a song. ‘They then came back onstage a moment later and announced that we had been locked down, so they decided to play another song while we waited to find out what was happening. ‘We were then told by venue staff that there had been an altercation between people outside and that they were temporarily keeping us inside so that we did not walk out into it.’
A Metropolitan Police statement said: ‘This [charge] follows an incident in Parkfield Street at 10.25pm on Tuesday, 27 October where two men, aged 33 and 27, were each found with a gunshot wound. ‘The London Ambulance Service attended, and both men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. ‘The 33-year-old’s injuries were assessed as life-changing. Extensive enquiries into the shooting later confirmed that a third man, aged 36, was stabbed during the incident. ‘His injuries were neither life-threatening nor life-changing. ‘Asiedu has been charged in relation to this stabbing. No arrests have been made in connection with the shootings, and an investigation remains ongoing.’
